BBMP Election Postpone - Date to be announced

BBMP Election have been postpone for dates yet to be announced. The election which were supposed to held on Feb 21 with the results to be declared on Feb 25, has been called off due to the reservation process in various wards.

The announcement came in when Supreme Court handed over the matter to the High Court stating it is state issue and needs to be handled by the local Court.

Now the state election commission has issued a notification that they have not yet made a clear postpone for BBMP election, if the Government issue a fresh notification on the reservation list in two days, then the election can be held on the scheduled date.

Government has the guidelines and reservation list, however, the was issued in month of November which was gain partial not a complete list.

Taking into consideration all the hurdles, like Bangalore Infrastructure, Development works carried on by BBMP, reservation list to be issued, Examination for school and colleges, monsoon season, then panchayat election are all coming up.

This would mean that we will need to atleast wait till end of the year for the election to be held. Taking this into consideration, BBMP Commissioner, Bharat Meena Lal has sent a letter to CM, stating he is not at all interested in the job with allegation and proceedings happening in the BBMP

November 30, 2009 – State Government announces reservation matrix

December 7, 2009 – State election announces poll dates

December 8, 2009 – Division bench of HC quashes reservation matrix

December 17, 2009 – Supreme Court stays the HC verdict

January 6, 2010 – Apex court order BBMP election using reservation list issued by state government on Nov – 30.

January 28, 2010 – Supreme court vacates stay, reverts matter to HC.

January 30, 2010 – Official announcement of BBMP Election Postpone – Date yet to be announced
