IIIT - Bangalore Admission Notice for MS by Research has started for th year 2010. M.S. applications received by April 1, 2010 will be processed after that date, for admission effective August 2010.

General Information

The formal minimal prerequisite for acceptance into the M.S. program is a first-class degree in Engineering (or a first-class M.Sc./M.C.A. with relevant specialization). Students who have a good plan for academic research and believe they can be competitive with the best researchers worldwide are encouraged to apply.

The M.S. program is research-driven, with a limited coursework component, and is not a substitute for the M.Tech. (i.e., it is not suitable for students who need to take many classes and do not have an interest or established background in research).

Eligibility : Minimum Requirements

first-class four-year bachelor's degree in engineering (i.e. B.E., B.Tech., or equivalent).

M.Sc./MCA degree holders can also apply.

Final-year students expecting to graduate by August 2009 may also apply.

Working Professionals

Working professionals may apply for the M.S. by Research program. Such applications have to be sent through the employer (or accompanied by a letter from a supervisor or other authorized representative of the employer stating that there is no objection to the applicant's joining iiit-b as a student).

International Students

Exceptional international students are eligible to apply for the M.S. by Research program.

Selection Procedure

Admission to the M.S. by Research program is on the basis of submitted records of prior academic work and other scholarship showing aptitude for research, letters of recommendation, and a personal interview.

Application Procedure

Submit the following with a covering letter giving a summary, to the Registrar, IIIT-B, 26/C Electronics City, Hosur Road, Bangalore 560 100.

Transcripts or attested copies of prior academic work, and copies of any published papers.

A statement of purpose of between 1000-2000 words, indicating research goals and prior research experience.

A non-refundable application fee of Rs. 1000 (₨2,215.74 in case of international applicants), in the form of a demand draft payable to IIIT-Bangalore.

In addition, include three sealed envelopes bearing letters of recommendation with your application, or arrange to have three letters of recommendation supporting the application sent directly to the Registrar. (Such letters should be from former professors, research supervisors, or other qualified people familiar with the applicant and able to describe and attest to his scholastic ability and aptitude for first-rate research.)

Note: Applications that are not accompanied by the required fee, or are incomplete in other respects, will not be considered.

Fees & Financial Aid

No stipend is available for M.S. students.

Students in the research programs pay the tuition fee of Rs. 50,000 per semester for only three semesters, though they take longer to complete.
