How to prepare Poha Upma (Avali). This is one of the most common breakfast dish in South India. Learn how to prepare it.

This is how Poha (Aval) Upma is prepared.

Ingredients:

Poha - 1 cup; Spices - Mustard seeds, jeera and urad dal; Onion - 1 medium size
Tomato - 2 small; Green chillies - 4; Potato - 2 small/boiled & peeled; Turmeric - 1/2 tsp;

Method

  • Wash poha, drain water and keep it aside.

  • Saute spices, onion and green chillies. After few mins, add tomato. Add boiled cubes of potato.

  • Add turmeric & salt

  • Add poha and mix well.

  • Garnish with cilantro.


  • Note that we should not add water as we do for Rava Upma. It will become very mushy if we add water. Poha should not be sticky.
